WE ONLY ADOPT TO OUR IMMEDIATE AREA.
WE FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT EVERYONE SHOULD RESCUE FROM THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF DOGS IN JEOPARDY THROUGHOUT THE STATE. ADOPT ONE FROM YOUR COMMUNITY AND SAVE A LIFE!

If interested in adopting from us, you MUST fill out the questions on application page. The information you provide will help us to determine which dog might be the best fit for your lifestyle/family.
We then set an appointment to meet the dog/dogs you are interested in. We encourage you to bring all household members to the appointment as it is best if everyone agrees on the pet to be adopted.
We also require a homecheck. This is done only to ensure your fenced yard will securely contain the dog you are interested in adopting.
You must have a personal ID tag ready to place on the dog you are interested in adopting. An ID tag can be made instantly with machines found at Lemos, Wal-Mart, PetSmart, or Petco. The tag must contain your address, phone number and cell phone number if available. This helps to ensure that the dog will get back home again if it happens to get out of the new home's yard.

If you are looking for a small dog, go to the website
www.shortnsweetdogrescue.org
They are located in Templeton.
To view the hundreds of thousands of other dogs in need of a new home, go to the website
www.petfinder.com
Enter your zipcode and the type of pet you are looking for. There are literally thousands waiting for someone to adopt them before time runs out.

Our dogs are used to sleeping in the house at night. This is something that we require by legal contract continue at the new home. Our dogs are crate trained for this purpose. Our dogs also get along with most other dogs, if properly introduced. They are allowed to run the property and play in groups of 15 or more, each day. Including several Pitbulls and Pit mixes. Dogs are just dogs. It doesn't matter if they are wearing a Pitbull suit. Dogs are pack animals. They are happiest when with a pack. If you only have one dog, you and your family become the dog's pack. We encourage you to become your dog's pack leader through exercise and discipline.

We often consult with behaviortist, Leah Bauer. Leah can teach you how to appropriately interact with your dog as a pack leader. She can be reached at 540-0006.
For additional OBEDIENCE training, you can go to the website listed below to download dog training videos, to train your dog basic obedience, train out bad habits, etc. There are even videos for training cats. Check out the website http://www.petvideo.com

All of our dogs know how to use a Pet Door. Yay!

Bijou is about 55-60lbs. She is a medium energy dog. Bijou walks nicely on leash, and plays gently with other dogs. She is a bit on the shy side when meeting new people and will need a strong pack leader to help her understand she is safe and has nothing to fear. Bijou is crate trained, and may be housetrained too. She rides pretty well in the car. Bijou is calm and affectionate.

Brandy is medium energy girl. She crate trained, housetrained, good with other dogs, walks well on leash, and knows some basic obedience commands. Brandy would do well in a home that will give her a daily 45 minute walk to drain her energy, and allow her to remain well behaved. Brandy is not good with cats.

Brandy

Brody is a young (DOB 6/16/2010) Great Dane/Mastiff mix. He is very good with kids, and other dogs. Brody is housetrained, happy, and affectionate. He is not so great with cats, so would probably do best in a home without them. Brody is about 140 lbs. He is a BIG boy. This great dog is now looking for a great home. Is it yours?

Brody likes dogs big and small

Chrissy-aka Kissy

Chrissy is super affectionate and loves to snuggle with you on the couch or bed. She is good with big and small dogs. She will chase cats, so it would be best if she were in a home without them, unless you are willing to modify her behavior to accept them as her pack. It can be accomplished, but does take time and consistancy. Chrissy rides well in the car and will wait patiently until you get back from going into the grocery store. She usually has a couple of small dogs riding along with her for those trips. She walks on leash, and comes well when called. Chrissy is house/crate trained. She is just waiting for her forever home to find her.

She is also good with other dogs both big and small. She will probably only be about 25-30lbs when full grown. Clover is learning to walk on leash, and now gets to sleep in a crate in the house at night. Beats sleeping on the cold concrete at the pound! Clover was scheduled to be killed to make space for incoming dogs. Poor dear did notheing wrong, just ran out of time. Lucky for her she got to come to the rescue and will stay here until she finds an excellent home!

Nigel is playful with other dogs, and especially likes to wrestle with Maya, Mary, and Coco. Nigel is crate trained, and sleeps all night in his crate without incident. He is an affectionate boy who likes to get an occasional scratch on the head or neck. Nigel also likes to splash around a bit in the wading pools we have for the dogs here at our rescue. Since he likes water, he may be a good lake or beach dog.

Paris

Paris is an adorable little girl. She spent several months of her previous life locked in a bathtub. Not sure why her idiot owners did that to her, but she was eventually allowed to escape her porcelain prison, and come to this rescue. Now she has lots of other dogs to hang out with everyday. Paris is crate trained, affectionate, and getting to be just what she is. A dog. She was a hit at our recent outing. This pretty girl now just needs a home of her own. A bonus would be a lap to sit on too!

Paris

Penelope is about 2 yr old, 45lbs, and a medium-high energy dog. She is crate trained, walks on leash, is very playful with the other foster dogs,  and is also quite affectionate. She would do best in a home that can walk her for at least 45 minutes a day, and also has another dog to play with as she finds wrestling with other dogs to be quite fun.

Pumba-Swahili for "silly"

Pumba is a cute Rat Terrier/Chi mix. He is super friendly, mellow, affectionate, and loves to meet new people. Puumba is crate trained, walks on leash, rides easily in the car and was a crowd pleaser at his debut at our most recent outing. This pretty boy now needs to find a home of his own to cherish him.

Rosie is a 50lbs, wrinkle-faced compact dog. Rosie is crate trained, and very playful with other dogs. She knows her name pretty well, walks on leash, and will wait for her food until you say "take it". Jester

Jester is big, sweet, and pretty mellow. He does like to wrestle with his brothers and sisters, but he also like to come hang out with me. Jester is a medium energy puppy. He has received 3 puppy shots, and will be neutered and microchipped before he leaves to his new home. Now we just need to find him an excellent new home! (DOB 4/2011)

Bug is an affectionate pup (DOB 4/17/2011) who is crate trained, and learning to walk on leash. He likes to wade in the dog pools, and wrestle with the other dogs too. He is curious about what a cat is, but seems to be just that. Curious. We are having "technical difficulties" uploading new pics to this site, so you can go to Bug's Facepage book to see pics of him.  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2265649673535.2115011.1017320657&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=2265645713436&set=a.2265645393428.2115010.1017320657&type=3&theater

Sawyer is an energetic young boy (DOB 4/17/2011) He sleeps in his crate at night, and is learning to walk on leash. Sawyer, aka SoySauce, plays in the dog's wading pools, and is good with all the other dogs, both big and small. He is only going to be about 50lbs when full grown. Now to find him an excellent home! You can see pics of Sawyer on his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2265649673535.2115011.1017320657&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=2265649993543&set=a.2265649673535.2115011.1017320657&type=3&theater

Simon- is a sweet, reserved, little guy. He is cautious about showing his affection for you too soon, but within a few minutes, he will be sitting next to you or on your lap. Simon is great with all the other little dogs, and even the pitbulls that sleep on the bed with him. Especially Chrissy. Simon is 2-3 yrs old. He sleeps in a crate at night without incident, although he prefers sleeping snuggled on the bed with you. He is a medium-low energy dog, and weighs less than 10 lbs. Unfortunately for Simon, he is black, and a boy. In the rescue world, that means he will be over looked every time. Black, male dogs, are the very last to ever get adopted. We are hoping someone will look past his color and see his personality!

Tomaso

Tomaso has had quite a journey in his time on this earth. He was originally thrown away by his first owner. Then adopted and loved dearly by his next owner, who died quite unexpectedly. Now he waits here with us, to see if he gets a third shot at a home of his own. Tomaso may be grey in the face, but he is still quite young at heart, and both energetic and playful. Tomaso is crate trained, housetrained, good with other dogs, and an excellent travel companion. You can see more pictures of Tomaso, and read his full story on his own Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2073542&id=1017320657

Sanctuary Dogs*Sanctuary Dogs*Sanctuary Dogs*Sanctuary Dogs*Sanctuarty Dogs*

These are dogs that probably will not get adopted due to their age. So they will live out the remainder of their lives here. A much better option than the pound where they would eventually be put to death because of lack of space.

Tahoe-This big boy(140 lbs) is about 8-9 yrs old. He is house trained, loves going for rides in the car, is great on leash, on good with other dogs, and little kids too. Just not cats.

Anton- Great with cats! Loves cats!! Just pushy with humans. He is about 7 yrs old now.

Bailey-He is about 12 yrs old now. He likes hanging out in the day yards, or sleeping on his blanket during the day.

Bonnie-This fuzzy girl is now about 11-12 yrs old.

Walter-This good boy has begun to lose his vision. He is about 11-12 yrs old.

Ty-He came to us in 2005. He is now about 9 yrs old.

Cowboy

Cowboy and his brother Wonder, and sister Sweet, came to my rescue in 2000 when they were 8 wks old. Some jerk (read asshole) took them and dumped them out in the middle of no-where Atascadero, and left them to die. They were born deaf and blind. Fortunately their little noses worked fine and they were able to follow them to someone's house. That person was going to take them to the pound if I didn't take them. The pound was certain death. So they came here instead. Two days later, they presented with Parvo. All three got through that, and have lived here, fat and sassy since then. They are now starting to show their age, sleeping a good deal of the day. But they have always been extremely friendly dogs, very happy when they are with the other dogs, and amazingly able to negotiate the property. Even being deaf and blind. I will miss them when they eventually pass on.
