It is very frustrating to get calls from people who choose to "get rid" of their dog once they have a baby. You see those ads all the time. Dogs can be great protection for a baby from things that mean to do the child harm. Why would you "get rid" of a family protector? The problem is that people do not prepare the dog for the change that is coming to the family. The following is a link to a newsletter from Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer, addressing just this issue. It is worth reading and then implementing if your family is about to change with the addition of a child. Getting rid of your dog because you are having a child is not necessary. After all, are you going to get rid of your first child if you have a second child? Of course not. Most families will work at integrating all family members. It is the same with integrating a new child into a family that has a dog.

Alpine with his new little human. Such a well behaved indoor pony!

My grandniece Bailey, with her guardian Felon. I'd like to see a predator, human or otherwise try to do harm to this little girl.

Pack Leader.

Teach your children to be pack leaders.  Don't teach them to hug a dog. Teach them to lead. That is a position of respect.
