Dog Rescue Network is a non-profit, 501(c)3 rescue effort.  We rescue most of our dogs from high-kill pounds. Pounds whose kill-rate is 85%-95%. Pounds whose animals nearly all wind up dead.

The dogs we save had the misfortune of landing at one of these pounds, and winding up on their kill-list simply because they ran out of time. Not because they are bad dogs. They just had bad, irresponsible owners who did not commit to them for their entire lives.

We rescue dogs like this puppy and his 3 siblings. They were all dumped in the overnight kennel at the Los Banos Pound. They were only 4 weeks old and too young to adopt out, so they were scheduled to be put to death instead. We rescued and named this puppy Frasier.

On average, we adopt out about fifty (50) dogs a year. We are ABSOLUTELY NO-KILL. When a dog comes to our rescue. it lives here until we find the right home for it. Not every dog will work for every home. We try to ask enough questions about the potential adopter to determine if the dog they are interested in is the right fit. Anton, shown here, is very strong willed. He is also affectionate and very fond of cats. Anton needs someone who has experience with dogs and can be a patient, confident, pack leader, to get the right kind of behavior from him. If a dog does not get adopted, they just live here with us.

All our dogs sleep indoors at night. Like Amy, shown here on her bed.  Most of our dogs learn to sleep in crates at night. Throughout the day they are allowed to run and play outside, and with each other. Our dogs are not kenneled. They have 2 acres to explore and enjoy.

Kahuna, Iris, Baxter chew on log.

Fancy, Frasier, Cleveland, hang out on the patio with their toys.

Zorro sits and watches the other dogs. Our sweet old man lived with us from march 2005, when we rescued him from a high kill pound, until Aug 7th 2010, when he passed away in his sleep at nearly 15 yrs old. He was a good puppy baby sitter.

Caring for over fifty dogs each day is time consuming. There are food bowls to wash every day. Twice a day. Yard pick up to do every day. All day. Blankets to wash. Especially after it rains.

Lots of dog hair to sweep up everyday. All day. And many, many bags of dog food to move and store.

It is an all day affair. Fortunately, it is also a love affair. These dogs deserve no less. They certainly deserve more in the form of a home of their own. People often ask if it is hard to let them go when they are adopted. Some are harder to say goodbye to than others. But all of them, when adopted to the right home, are going to be with a family/person that can give them even more than we can. That is the result we are always looking for.
